2020 is the start of a new decade.
‘The 2020s’, as the decade is called, would mark the era where several events that would shape the future of technology will unfold. Moreover, for those of us born in the 80s and 90s, this might just be the last time we would see such a year, as the next one is 2121.
Here are essential facts about this year;
The Start of the 3rd decade of 21st Century
10 decades make a century. With the commencement of 2020, there will be 7 decades left to the end of this century, 21st century.
The first decade began from January 1, 2000, and ended at December 31, 2009.
The second decade began from January 1, 2010, and ended at December 31, 2019,
The third decade begins from today, January 1, 2020, and will end at December 31, 2029.
The 2020s decade will be noted for Technological Advancements
Looking back at the time a year such as this occurred, 1919. There were no gadgets for information technology that match the ones we have now.
The first television signal was transmitted in 1927, and Motorola became the first company to produce a handheld mobile phone in 1973, which became commercially available to the public in 1983.
Considering now and the last time this kind of year occurred, we can say we are more privileged.
But in 2121, we in comparison, would be underprivileged, as there would be a new technology that beat ours.
Just as how scientists then were working in 1919 to develop the television, mobile phone, and so on, Scientists now are working on developing something even better (which you would soon find).
In the first decade of this century, 2000s, we saw several technological developments. The creation of Wikipedia, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and iPhone in 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 respectively.
The second decade brought AI development closer, as we observe China deploy its first robot traffic police.
From 2010 to 2019, we experienced developments in science, technology, entertainment, and transportation.
Now in this decade, expect more. New Innovations and technology will accelerate at a much quicker pace, leading the way for technological breakthrough especially in AI, robotics, 5G, and Biotechnology.
A wakeup call. Nigeria needs to catch up with technology trends in 2020, ensuring they do not remain on a spot for too long.
When certain trends aren’t considered, Nigeria, as well as some African countries might just be last to get the wave, by which time, the developed countries are cruising in yet another form of advanced technology.
Hope sets in when our country’s best interest is considered over personal interests. No amount of personal wealth can be as good as Nigeria being a developed country.
Looking at a country like USA, we would presume their citizens are “well-to-do”.
But Nigeria is viewed badly in the world’s eye. At the mention of the name, Nigeria, what comes to mind is usually, terrorism, fraud, corruption, poverty, and other negativeness.
What pride is there in showing off ?
While you lambast the crippling economy, you lose sight of the fact that you share the blame.
Aside maladministration, your work practices are poor, as your primary motivator is money. You work fundamentally for money not for development or impact.
Thus, you go about your activities, the most cost-effective way, so as to save time and energy, and then you doggedly realign to make up for losses, leaving behind poor quality.
To take action, stop selfishness and corrupt practices in work, and develop your enterprise in the best way you can.
