It is important to note that change is constant in life.
A resolution can be understood as a strong resolve, purpose or a statement of intent, and a vow.
Our New Year Resolutions are often a product of some feedbacks on our attitudes, characters for which we want to take actions at correcting them.
As much as we desire changes on our attitudes, there is need to know how to create these statements of intent concerning how to live and do better in an entire new year.
First and foremost, self-evaluation of one’s actions and inactions for an outgoing year should be undertaken so as to afford one the opportunity of knowing one’s weaknesses and strengths.
For example, if one is a drunkard in the year under review, a self-assessment of one’s losses or pains as a result of that habit should be carried out.
In addition, write out your weaknesses, failures, each against a positive action that could have averted it. Until we know where we fail, we cannot know how we missed it and the way forward in remedying the situation.
Many a times when people are caught in an evil act, the excuse has been ‘It was the devil’ but we must pick it that the devil would have sneaked in through a given window, and that opening could be the weak point of that individual.
Furthermore, an action point is imperative. When we can answer the question of what is wrong: we can equally proffer a solution.
The first time in my life that I lit a cigarette, it was due to peer pressure, but I resolved to quit them.
A smoker making a new year resolution to “not smoke again” in the following new year should know that one of the action points is removing themselves from the presence of smokers.
Aside from identifying what positive thing to be done, confiding in people will help. Majority of what people go through is because of not having any authority to whom they submit. Nobody can go far in life, does not submit to anyone, a mentor.
Lastly, being intentional about the changes you want is the way to go. It is not enough making new year statements of purpose, resolutions, but being deliberate, decisive.
It might interest you to remember that drafting a new year resolutions is taking responsibility for one’s life as how far one goes in life is a function of the quality and quantity of responsibilities taken.
