Easter is upon us once again! The death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus us of his continual love. It’s a beautiful season.
A time of sober reflection and inward retrospection. Thinking about this season, I can’t help but wonder, of all gruesome ways to die, why the cross?
Thousands of years ago, the cross had been a death penalty for people who commit heinous crimes. When you think of the lowest, the most inhumane way to teach others that wrongdoing is a crime and is punishable, think of the cross.
Most times, thieves are executed that way. Suspended on a piece of wood, arms spread and nailed to both extended ends of the wood. Feet were placed upon each other and nailed to the down part of the wood. They’re left there to die a slow, agonizing death.
When you think of the cross, think of the embarrassment, shame, disgust! Think of the pain of having to hold yourself up on that piece of wood for hours because you might dislocate your arms or break your legs if you don’t.
Upon reflection, it has occurred to me that, He would have died any other way but it was on the cross, with so much pain so that we can realise the extent of he went.
So that we can realize how precious we are. How important we are. That even in our lowest form, even in our deepest sin, even in that situation that we think is irredeemable, we can be assured that he went deeper to set us free. So we’re not bound by anything.
We’re not held captive by any form of sin because he took the most dreadful of burdens. He died the most gruesome of deaths, the highest penalty at the time! So that we can understand the length He can go to hold us up.
When you think of the cross, think of the pain he went through, then compare it with your pain now. See if it measures up in any way. No matter what it feels like, He’s been there and experienced worse things, so he most certainly can save you.
This is Easter, it’s a time to rethink, how little have you rated his ability to save you. You’ve been beside yourself, thinking off your head and wondering like Mary “how can this be?”.
This is Easter, it’s a time to rebuild our trust, strengthen our hope and uphold our faith. It’s a time to truly believe in Him who we call father. It’s a time to leverage the finished work of Christ. It’s a time to hold dear His last statement before he gave up the ghost. “It is finished!”.
So it’s all over now, why worry? Do have a beautiful Easter celebration.
