You can be anything! You can be anything! You’re unstoppable.
As a little girl I was confused on what I wanted to become in life, I wanted to be a lawyer, because my mum and godmother wanted it.
It was a bit confusing because I didn’t have a path to follow because my path had been chosen for me by my mother and godmother.
I know someone reading this might be in this similar situation.
Here are some tips that might help:
- Communication:Make sure your parents understand what you really want, make them understand why you want it. Let them know how important it is for you to follow your heart. When you feel your parents are imposing something you don’t want to do on. Speak to them and make them understand the reason you really want to follow your heart and why you want to be what you have passion for. Find a way to make them understand why you can’t do what the want! Remember don’t argue! Rather come to an understanding with them.
- Self development: You are a product of what you see, listen to and read, There’s an apt adage that say “Reader’s are Leaders!”. Start reading to develop yourself. Read about the people that have achieved what you want to become, learn about their mistakes, failures and successes so you can have a sense of what you’re really going to go through to achieve your goals!
- Don’t doubt yourself: Don’t be intimidated/ afraid of your choices. I feel like every parent needs to teach their children how to be confident. I remember when I was in JSS3, a teacher asked everyone in my class what they wanted to become in future, everyone spake their mind and when I mentioned mine, they kept saying lawyers are liars and they won’t make heaven.. blah blah. My piousness creates fear that made me see being a lawyer as a sin and I wouldn’t go to heaven if I chose to become one. Right that instant, I changed my mind on becoming a lawyer. It was a painful decision, but I just had to let go for the fear of not making heaven. It took me a while to unlearn what the teacher and my classmate told me that day but the damage had been done because I had lost the interest in becoming a lawyer.
Most times because we have low self-esteem or self doubt we tend to allow people’s opinions to derail us from the right path. Do not give in to doubt nor must you be intimidated by friends and family’s derogatory comments.
My Dear, don’t let anyone make you believe that you can’t achieve what you have intended in your heart, you have the capacity to achieve anything (you want!).
Don’t let anyone impose their fears and shortcomings on you.
Just because they fail doesn’t mean you will fail too, and also remember failure is a necessary ingredients for success! Keep believing in yourself!
By the way, Law is a good course for anyone who aspire to be a lawyer. So don’t listen to any superstitious doctrine.
