Qualcomm has commenced its Make in Africa Startup Mentorship Program, which is the first initiative of its kind in Africa.
The equity-free mentorship program aims to identify promising early-stage startups keen on applying advanced connectivity and processing technologies to innovative end-to-end systems solutions, including hardware, and provide these companies with business coaching, access to engineering consultation for product development, and guidance on protecting intellectual property.
Geeky Nigeria reports that Qualcomm provides powerful connectivity solutions (products and technologies) such as 5G-enabled smartphones that double as pro-level cameras and gaming devices, smarter vehicles and cities, and the technology behind the smart, and connected factories.
Through the Make in Africa Startup Mentorship Program, Qualcomm aims to provide Mentorship, Skilling, and Visibility for tech startups.
The 1:1 mentorship with Qualcomm leaders on a regular cadence will allow startups to avail fresh innovations that can propel business and development. It will also be a guide to startups in order to achieve realization.
In addition, there will be masterclasses on product management, pitch clinic, IPR, and hardware architecture, which should assist startups in the running of their companies.
As for visibility, a Demo Day has been set aside with the startup ecosystem, so as to connect with various industry leaders, VCs, investors, and other accelerators.
The deadline for application is February 28, 2023, and shortlisting of startups will commence in March 2023 (The exact day to be disclosed).
