A Group, under the command of the National Coalition of Edo Voters (NCEV), on Thursday 2nd March 2023 called on admirers of Labour Party to gather at the National Museums ground in Benin City today Friday 3rd Mar. 2023 for a peaceful protest against the pronouncement of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate as the winner.
The group made this call for a peaceful protest at a press conference in Benin City which was titled, “A total, unequivocal rejection of the 2023 Presidential election results, announced by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.”
The Spokesperson for the group, Olu Martins, said the gathering at the museum is with the intention to express their distaste for alleged fraud and abnormalities that characterised the unprofessional conduction and declaration of the presidential election results.
Martins, said the gathering at the museum would be different from the normal protest but a replication of the 2012 fuel subsidy protest, when some Lagosians gathered at Freedom Park.
“We have concluded that by tomorrow (Friday) morning, we will be gathering at the National Museum ground in Benin City for a peaceful protest against INEC and the pronouncement of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC presidential candidate, as the winner of the election.
“We will be there from Friday till March 11 state House of Assembly election. We will be occupying the area for two hours every day” Olu Martins said.
He further addressed all Obidients and non-Obidients to participate in the protest. We need to exercise action while expressing our displeasure on the unprofessional conduction of the last Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections.
He stated that electoral corruption against patriotic citizens is the highest corruption experienced in the world, as it is worse than financial corruption and other forms of corrupt acts which were built on electoral corruption.
He pleaded with forensic experts to audit and scrutinize the presidential election results to uncover hidden factors which prevented free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria.
