On this International Women’s Day, we would like to highlight the accomplishments of Dr. Ify Aniebo RV, a molecular geneticist who has made significant contributions to malaria research.
Dr. Aniebo RV received her PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University of Sussex in the UK. She went on to work as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford, where she focused on the genetic basis of malaria resistance in African populations.
After several years at Oxford, Dr. Aniebo RV returned to Nigeria to continue her research. She currently works as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, where she leads a team studying the molecular genetics of malaria parasites.
Dr. Aniebo RV’s research has focused on understanding how genetic variations in malaria parasites can affect their virulence and resistance to drugs. Her work has led to the identification of several new drug targets for malaria treatment and has helped to inform the development of more effective antimalarial drugs.
In addition to her research, Dr. Aniebo RV is also actively involved in science education and outreach in Nigeria. She is a mentor to many young scientists and has worked to promote science education and encourage more girls to pursue careers in STEM fields.
Dr. Aniebo RV’s contributions to malaria research and her dedication to science education make her a role model for women in science around the world. We celebrate her achievements on International Women’s Day.
