Online learning is the practice of receiving instruction electronically via a variety of multimedia and Internet-based platforms and tools.

It is synonymous with words like e-learning, computer-assisted education, web-based learning, and Internet-based learning.

Online learning enables students to complete their coursework and receive degrees without being physically present on campus.

Web-based classes, video conferencing, and self-paced learning programmes are just a few examples of the various formats that online learning can take.

Due to its simplicity and flexibility, it is a method of instruction that students are frequently using.

On the other hand, classroom education refers to the delivery of educational programmes or courses to one or more students in an environment where either an instructor is physically present with the students or a representative of an approved school is physically present with the students to take attendance and deliver instruction via audiotape, cable television, or satellite line. It is an in-person kind of learning that cannot be done by proxy.

The differences between online and classroom learning are highlighted below:

Classroom Learning Online Learning
1. Learning is more dynamic and encourages active participation. It doesn’t have much engagement as a classroom setting
2. Follows a proper routine, less flexible. It allows for flexibility as students can access missed classes at their convenience.
3. Classroom learning involves self-discipline as students follow set rules It does not encourage self-discipline as some students may get distracted.
4. Has no technical Issues Encounters technical issues often
5. Class management can be challenging Does not need classroom management
6. You do not get to practice while you study you You get to practice while you study
Advantages of Online Learning
Efficiency

Teachers can effectively give lessons to students through online learning. Teachers can use all the resources available for online learning, including podcasts, PDFs, and videos, as part of their lesson preparations.

Time and location accessibility

Additionally, removing regional restrictions, enables schools to connect with a wider network of learners.

Affordability

This is because online education does not require students to pay for their transportation, meals, or—most significantly ‘real estate.’ Additionally, all the course or study materials are accessible online, creating a paperless learning environment that is both more economical and environmentally friendly.

Best suited for a wide variety of learning styles

While some students like to study visually, others learn best through audio. It is important to note that some students excel in the classroom, and some are lone learners who are easily distracted by huge groups.

Accessibility to the desired programmes is more widespread

You get the chance to offer several courses in an online setting and you can take them at your convenience.

Advantages of Classroom Learning

Ensures collaborative learning

It involves learners working together on activities or learning tasks in a group that is small enough to ensure everyone participates.

Improves social skills

The classroom environment enhances social interactions with both the teacher and peer groups.

Keeps pupils engaged

Through engaging and participatory activities, a teacher’s physical presence keeps learners engaged.

Enhances personality

In the classroom, students have the chance to learn values like control, civility, charity, teamwork, and togetherness. They must follow the academic norms and standards and must be disciplined.

Enhances student motivation

Lack of student motivation is one of the disadvantages of online learning. Interactions between students, peers, and teachers in person encourage learning.
