The World Conference on Child Welfare held in Geneva in 1925 saw the first official declaration of International Children’s Day. Although most communist and post-communist countries have commemorated it on June 1 since 1950, World Children’s Day was first observed on November 20, 1954, the same day the Declaration of the Rights of the Child was adopted.
