Performance data help in identifying struggling students. It highlights their weaknesses and gives the teachers clues on where to start instead of just launching everything on the student without knowing his/her capability.

It can help teachers tailor their instructions to meet the needs of each student. For example, when a teacher gets a student’s data or profile, he/she can learn better ways of teaching such a student.
It would be easier to identify slow learners, quick learners, and even students suffering from dyslexia. This essentially helps in devising the right approach for each learner without putting too much pressure on them.

It provides students with valuable feedback, as they can know how much they have evolved and developed and figure out where they are lagging and need to buckle up.

There are some drawbacks to real-time performance data in education. Some of these are:
1. “Teaching to the Test” Mentality
Real-time performance data causes teachers to focus mainly on helping the students attain higher test scores. They focus on specific items that would improve the data without any deviations, thereby teaching exactly what would be in the test and basing all the instructional materials on it.
They forget other brain development tasks for the students, thereby leaving out deeper learning.
2. Increased Anxiety
Real-time performance data sets a certain standard that builds up anxiety in students as the pressure to want to perform well at all times gets heightened. This could lead to mental breakdowns and give room for unhealthy competition.
Conclusion
Real-time performance data in education is an excellent advantage in schools, it helps to create better and more confirmative teaching techniques. However, placing too much focus on it can cause problems as it starts an unhealthy race that keeps the student running and spiralling out of control.
