The Asido Foundation, a leading not-for-profit mental health advocacy has commenced the Jemila Abubakar Memorial Essay (JAME) competition in memory of its pioneer program manager, Miss Jemila Abubakar.
Despite a tragic accident that confined her to a wheelchair, Jemila’s selfless spirit, optimism, and passion for mental health awareness inspired countless individuals.
Asido Foundation is also the winner for Innovative Research, Training, or Practice in Low and Middle Income Countries at the 6th ACAMH Awards
Since its inception, the competition has received over 2,500 entries from tertiary institutions across Nigeria’s 36 states.
Winners receive cash prizes (₦200,000, ₦150,000, and ₦100,000) and are awarded plaques. The top 15 winners are also selected for a mental health fellowship.
The JAME competition supports the Asido Foundation’s core value of Youth Mental Health, aiming to:
- Improve mental health awareness and knowledge among Nigerian youths
- Empower students to become mental health advocates through a year-long mentorship program
The top 15 winners will receive: Cash prizes, Certificates of achievement, and a coveted spot in the JAME 2024 Fellowship program
