MTN Nigeria Launches Tier III Dabengwa Data Centre

by Geeky Nigeria

MTN Nigeria has made a significant leap forward for the country’s digital economy with the launch of the Dabengwa Data Centre in Lagos.

The 14MW-capable modular campus features over 1,500 server racks, Tier III-level redundancy, AI-powered cooling and monitoring, and support for high-density workloads. Complementing the infrastructure is MTN Cloud, a locally-hosted, self-service IaaS platform priced in naira.

This innovative solution offers Nigerian startups, enterprises, and developers AWS-style provisioning without the forex barriers or regulatory risks associated with foreign-hosted clouds.

The launch of the Dabengwa Data Centre and MTN Cloud platform signals a turning point for Nigeria’s digital economy. According to Dr. Karl Toriola, MTN Nigeria CEO, hosting data locally provides additional benefits beyond compliance, including reduced latency, improved service reliability, and protection against geopolitical risks. MTN’s initiative reduces capital flight and keeps value circulating in the local economy. This investment is expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs and serve as a platform for local innovation and entrepreneurship.

MTN Cloud is particularly attractive to developers and tech startups, enabling faster product development and shorter time-to-market. The platform allows users to log in from anywhere in the world and instantly provision computing resources, without needing MTN personnel to manually assist with onboarding.

With high-performance infrastructure, local regulatory compliance, affordable pricing, and global-standard service delivery, MTN is offering a platform that has the potential to reshape Nigeria’s digital landscape.

The Dabengwa Data Centre is just the beginning, with plans to scale the campus up to 20 megawatts in the future and expand coverage nationwide. MTN’s goal is not only technological advancement but also national empowerment.

The launch of the Dabengwa Data Centre and MTN Cloud platform represents a bold step toward digital independence for Nigeria, and its impact is expected to be felt across the country’s digital economy.
