Snapchat is introducing a new AI-powered Lens that creates and edits images from plain text prompts Called “Imagine Lens,” the tool is rolling out to Snapchat+ Platinum and Lens+ subscribers.
With Imagine Lens, you can type a prompt, generate a fresh Snap, tweak an existing one, or spin up new variations. Finished results can be sent to friends, added to your Story, or shared off-platform. Although Snapchat already offers several generative AI Lenses, the company says this is its first Lens that supports fully open-ended text prompts.
Users can enter custom ideas like “make a grumpy cat” or “turn me into an alien.” There are also built-in suggestions, including: “Turn me into a four-to-five panel comic where something unexpected but heroic happens,” “Make me a funny caricature,” and “Make this person skydive.” At any time, you can tap the caption bar to revise your prompt into anything you want.
Earlier this year, Snap introduced a mobile-friendly text-to-image research model intended to power future features. The company didn’t confirm whether that specific model runs Imagine Lens, but noted that its Lenses use a mix of proprietary systems and leading third-party AI models.
Subscribers can find Imagine Lens at the front of the Lens Carousel or under the “Exclusive” tab. After selecting it, just tap the caption area to enter or edit your prompt. Pricing is set at $15.99/month for Snapchat+ Platinum and $8.99/month for Lens+.
Long known for its AR chops, Snap has been steadily layering in AI as well. In recent months, it launched a standalone Lens Studio iOS app and a web tool to make building AR Lenses simpler with AI-assisted workflows. And back in March, Snap debuted its first video-based generative AI Lenses, expanding creative options beyond still images.
