The Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area has launched a new “Street Marshals” initiative to promote environmental cleanliness and order within the community.
Announced on Monday via X by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, the programme is led by the Council Chairman, Bola Oladunjoye.
Under the scheme, Street Marshals will remove unauthorised structures from roads, clamp down on illegal markets and street trading, and prevent the unlawful use of public spaces. They will also work to curb excessive noise from social and religious centres and serve as information officers for the council, helping to relay updates and guidance to residents.
Chairman Oladunjoye urged the newly inaugurated officers to be proactive, disciplined, and respectful in carrying out their duties, noting that they represent the council’s image. The council is starting with about 50 marshals, with plans to expand the team to 100 over time.
