Geeky Nigeria Top 7 January Transfer: Ranking the Most Impactful Signings

Transfer signings are no doubt the delight of every teams and fans. However, while some clubs are sceptical about spending huge amounts on signing star athletes, some are spending huge amounts to get them. Here is Geeky’s top 7 January winter window signings in 2026.

1. Antoine Semenyo (£62.5m)

From: Bournemouth

To: Manchester City

Antoine Semenyo transferred from Bournemouth to Manchester City in 2026. Man City made a huge investment of over £65m on 9th January to buy the forward for five years.

Apart from the £65m deal, he received other bonuses and the contract is expected to span till 2031. In his 21 games in Bournemouth, he scored 10 goals. This is Man City’s fourth most expensive signing.

2. Endrick Filipe (€1m)

From: Real Madrid

To: Lyon

Endrick is currently on 6 months loan to Olympique Lyonnais till June 2026. The 19-year-old Brazilian has appeared in 6 games in Ligue 1 and scored 5 goals. An outstanding performance.

However, the deal is a no-buy option from Real Madrid, and Endrick will return to Real Madrid after this season. Real Madrid had signed Endrick in a £72 million deal in 2024. Lyon paid a €1 million loan fee to acquire the player.

3. Ademola Lookman (€35m)

From: Atalanta

To: Atlético Madrid

Lookman finally secured a transfer away from Atalanta by signing for Atlético Madrid. The 28-year-old has had about four failed transfers and had gone on strike last summer over failed promises, as the club refused to sign him to Atletico Madrid.

This deal made him the second most expensive Nigerian football player after Victor Oshimen. The contact will last till June, 2030. He recorded his 100th goal in his first appearance with the new team.

4. Marc Guéhi (£20m)

From: Crystal Palace

To: Manchester City

Manchester City bought the Brazilian footballer Guehi in a £20m contract that is expected to last till 2031. The 25-year-old centre back was already in the final year of his contract with Crystal Palace. Guehi remarked that joining the team made him feel he was playing with the best Club in England.

5. Brennan Johnson (£35m)

From: Tottenham Hotspur

To: Crystal Palace

Brennan Johnson plays as a winger or forward for Crystal Palace. He was transferred from Tottenham Hotspur to Crystal Palace in a £35 million contract. The 24-year-old signed the club- record contract on January 2nd, 2026.

Last season, he finished as the best scorer in his previous club, with 18 goals and 51 appearances. He also emerged as the winner in the Europa League final in the 2024/2025 season. He has appeared in 8 matches and has scored 0 goals this season.

6. Jørgen Strand Larsen (£43m)

From: Wolverhampton Wanderers

To: Crystal Palace

The 25-year-old striker joined Crystal Palace from Wolves. He joined Wolves in 2024. In the last season’s EPL, he made 54 appearances with 18 goals scored.

His transfer was a replacement for Jean-Philippe Mateta, who had intended to leave for AC Milan, but the transfer failed. He has scored 2 goals in his home debut since joining Crystal Palace.

7. Oscar Bobb (£27m)

From: Manchester City

To: Fulham FC

The 28-year-old Norwegian winger transferred from Manchester City to Fulham on 30th January. The £27 million contract would last for five and a half years, ending in 2031. He appeared in 3 Premier League matches and has scored 0 goals but recorded 1 assist.
