It started like any other day in Oyo. People went to work, children went to school and families made plans for the evening. Then, the unthinkable happened. In the blink of an eye, our brothers, sisters and neighbors were snatched away.
We sat glued to our phones, we refreshed the news every five minutes. We cried in secret and prayed out loud. We asked “Why” and “when” and “Will they be okay?”
Today we have our answer. They are back.

The long nightmare is over. The tears we shed at the beginning of this ordeal are now tears of joy. If you remember my last article, I wrote about the raw fear that gripped us. I wrote about the empty chairs at dinner tables and the mothers who couldn’t stop crying. Back then, the future looked dark.
I wasn’t just writing as a writer, I was writing as one of them. I felt the anger, I felt the helplessness. But while we were scared, we were never broken. We gathered in mosques and churches. We hit the streets in protest, we called on the government and the security forces to act. We shouted, prayed and we demanded.
What Comes Next?
Now that they are home, the work of healing begins. We cannot let this experience define them. If you see them on the street, give them a warm embrace. If you know their families cook a meal and share it. They have endured enough, now they need to feel the warmth of home.
This is our moment to rebuild. We must stay vigilant and support the security forces. We must keep the faith and the spirit of oneness alive. The Oyo abduction people have returned and so have our collective strength. Let’s take a deep breath, say a prayer of thanks and hold our loved ones a little tighter tonight. We are one.
