Private Schools using international curriculum can now hold third term examinations online.
Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education, has said that private schools that run International Curriculum are free to conduct their term examinations online.
The minister disclosed this in Abuja while fielding questions from journalists during the daily press briefing of the Presidential Task force on COVID-19.
The minister explained that there are private schools licensed to run foreign curriculum essentially for the children of expatriates and diplomats.
He added that the approved curriculum are targeted at satisfying the ability of such children to be able to re-join the school system of their home countries at the time of need.
“Most of the schools who have that permit or who runs such programmes basically only in Lagos and Abuja are directed really towards embassies and people who have foreign nationals in Nigeria.
“So normally the American schools and a few private schools who have that content are tailored really to satisfy the ability of the children of expatriates who live here so that when they return to their countries they will be able to re-join their own school system.
“That was why they were permitted and that is what their licence contains in the first place, but I have heard stories that they cannot.
“But what the PTF said is that there should be no movement and no return to classes but we have not said people should stop learning.
“I am encouraging everybody to try and learn and if such schools are able to host online classes for the curriculum that they operate and they choose to use the period to cover their syllabus, it is permitted,” he said.
