A fire outbreak of unknown origin has wrecked shops at Apongbon market. Lagos Island, and led to gridlock on the Eko and Carter Bridge.
Information reaching Geeky Nigeria has it that vehicles parked under the bridge were also razed by the fire which covered most of the bridge.
The inferno began earlier hours of today, around 5am, and according to eye-witnesses, traders had been trying to salvage their goods from under the bridge, and have been advised to leave. Also there have been attempts by hoodlums to steal goods from traders
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in a tweet, stated that the fire outbreak has caused slow movement of motorists and advised that they use alternative routes.
“Motorists who are yet to connect Eko Bridge are advised to use alternative routes such as Third-Mainland Bridge and Carter Bridge.
“Emergency Responding Agencies like Fire Service, LASEMA, LASTMA are all on ground,” the agency announced.
In a later development, LASTMA assured that men of Lagos Fire Service have been able to put out the inferno temporarily.
