The traditional old-fashioned cake doughnut is mostly eaten in New England. It's can be eaten with sugar, maple syrup or milk cream.

In a neat bowl, mix all dry ingredients thoroughly, flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside
Melt butter on low heat, bring it down and allow to cool for a few seconds.
In a neat bowl, whisk the egg and add liquid ingredients. Vanilla essence and milk.
Turn the egg mixture into the butter and mix well.
Turn the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix with a clean hand or spatula.
The dough will be soft and not sticky.
Keep the dough in the refrigerator to rest for 30 minutes. This is optional.
Bring the dough out and cut it into the desired shape.
Heat vegetable oil and deep fry.
