Study means to devote time and attention to gaining knowledge of an academic subject by means of books. It is to apply the mind to learning and understanding a subject (especially by reading).
When preparing for exams it is essential to study so as to avoid failure. As “Education” is our forte, we have put together reliable tips that will undoubtedly aid exam preparation.
Create enough time to Study
Don’t wait until the last minute. While some students do seem to thrive on last-minute cramming, it’s widely accepted that (for most of us) this is not the best way to approach an exam. To help sort out your time management, set up a timetable for your study.
Write down how many exams you have and the days on which you have to sit them. Then organize your study accordingly. You may want to give some exams more study time than others, so find a balance that you feel comfortable with.
Organize your study environment
Distraction would hinder your study, which would cause inability to fully grasp topics. Make sure you have enough space to spread your textbooks and notes out. Ensure that you have got enough light, and your chair is comfortable. Keep anything you do for recreation (Games, Movies, etc) out of reach. Stay in a quiet place where there is little to no noise.
Use Concept Maps
Concept maps clearly and concisely demonstrate hierarchical relationships among the topic, main ideas, and supporting details or pertinent course material. Mapping helps you to learn actively.
Mapping is a way of picturing course content that enhances retrievability of the information on a test. Maps are useful because they reduce large amounts of information.
Practice Past Questions
One of the most effective ways to prepare for exams is practicing past versions. It helps you get used to the format of the questions.
Express yourself to Others
Parents and little brothers and sisters don’t have to be annoying around exam time. Use them to your advantage. Explain an answer to a question to them. That will help you to get it clear in your head, and also to highlight any areas where you need more work.
Don’t keep problems to yourself. They would eventually weigh on you during exams, impacting your performance. Let it all out.
Take regular breaks
Everyone’s different, so develop a study routine that works for you. If you study better in the morning, start early before taking a break at lunchtime. Or, if you’re more productive at nighttime, take a larger break earlier on so you’re ready to settle down come evening.
Eat Brain Foods
Brain foods play a role in keeping your brain healthy and can improve specific mental tasks, such as memory and concentration.
Some foods to aid in Studying are :
- Fatty Fish
- Coffee
- Eggs
- Nuts
On exam day – eat a good meal before the test, based on foods that will provide a slow release of energy throughout.
Drink enough water
Being well hydrated is essential for your brain to work at its best. Ensure you keep drinking plenty of water throughout your Study, and also on the exam day.
