The Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State, has developed a solar-powered automated hand-sanitising machine to aid the fight against COVID-19.
According to the Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Mohammed Abdullahi, the institution also developed an automated temperature-check machine and disinfection/fumigation device to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Rector said that the machines were developed by the institution’s technologists, under the supervision of Dr Mukhtar Jumare, Director, School of Engineering.
He said that the machine had two Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), with one asking a person to insert his or her hands and the other showing the quantity of the sanitser in the machine.
“Once a person inserts his hands, the machine will instantly dispense droplets of the sanitiser and thereafter, ask the person to remove his hands without touching the device,” he said.
Abdullahi also revealed that the solar-powered automated temperature measuring device also used LCD and alarm systems to differentiate between a normal body temperature and abnormal temperature.
“Once a person stands on the device, it will measure the height and the infrared sensor will focus on the person’s forehead, measure, and display the body temperature in green display.
“But if the temperature is abnormal, the display will turn red and the device will sound the alarm to draw attention that the temperature is abnormal,” he said.
The rector added that the disinfection and fumigation machine was a manual aerosol dispenser, designed to disinfect people and fumigate houses, public offices, and surroundings, among others.
He assured the public that the polytechnic would continue to provide technological solutions in response to the need of the society.
Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic is a state polytechnic established by the Kaduna government to provide training and development techniques in the Field of engineering, applied science, commerce and other spheres of learning.
