The Nigerian Army has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Super Green Security Ltd, Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria and Command Engineering Depot on production of military hardware and other defence related equipment.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sagir Musa, disclosed in a statement in Abuja that the signing of the MOUs was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s Executive Order Number 5 which is aimed at improving local content in public procurement of science, engineering and technological equipment.
He noted that the Nigerian Army had since keyed into the Federal Government’s desire to ensuring that individuals and organisations produced their basic needs.
Musa added that they had manufactured some combat vehicles and equipment such as Mines Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAP), Infantry Patrol Vehicles, boots, still helmet and fragment jacket among others.
He said the MoU was signed on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Lt.-Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, while Maj.-Gen. AB Abubakar (rtd) and Maj.-Gen. SS Araoye, signed for the firm and that of Command Engineering Depot respectively.
According to him, the Director General, Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Maj.-Gen. Victor Ezugwu also signed.
According to him, the parties commended the leadership of the Nigerian Army for making the army to be gradually self sustaining in the production and acquisition of military hardwares and equipment.
“These commendable efforts by the Nigerian Army under Gen. Buratai have saved the nation huge amount of foreign exchange that could have been used in the Procurement/purchase of these products/equipment which are usually not readily available in the open market,” he said.
