The Abuja chapter of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has charged its new members to be committed towards updating their knowledge on ICT innovations and development.
An official of the North Central Zone of NCS, Prof. Rasheed Jimoh said this during a virtual welcome reception for 112 new members in Abuja on Wednesday.
“ICT is the way out, it is the apt thing now. We need to keep up with new developments in ICT and not just copying others but rather develop more to help the society,” he said.
NCS Deputy National President, Mr Mohammed Aliyu said being members of the society would add value to them, urging them to contribute their quota for overall development of the society.
“One of things expected of you as members, is taking the profession to greater heights and not sit on the fence.
“Everyone is a stakeholder in his profession, increase your knowledge and do not be left behind in terms of new developments,” he said.
The immediate past Chairman, Mr Rex Abitogun, said the new members should be involved in contributing their skills, proffering solutions to problems in the ICT industry and financing laudable ideas.
He said the platform served as an opportunity to learn and share information as well as making one’s voice known.
One of the NCS fellows, Mr Akin Fapohunda called on the members to take their profession seriously, adding that the world was all about ICT.
The Chairman of the Chapter, Mr Olusegun Alabi, however, called on members to conduct themselves professionally, adding that the bye-laws of the chapter would guide them in their operations.
NCS is the umbrella organisation for all Information Technology (IT) Professionals, Interest groups and stakeholders in Nigeria. (NAN)
