Self–acceptance is a crucial aspect of life.
When we accept ourselves, without caring about what anyone says, feels and thinks, we may have the best weapon against issues of live.
When you’re surrounded by people who think you don’t fit into the society standards, you might listen to them and do whatever it takes to reach the standards.
These malicious people who think you don’t fit into their standard of living, would love to control your emotions and thought about your own standard of living.
Factors that get in the way of accepting yourself
Some factors hinder you from accepting yourself as a person. These factors also affects your personality in society:
Poor self image
When we don’t accept ourselves the way we are, we are drawn to hate some or all part of us. For instance, we look into the mirror and says “Oh my nose is too big, I am so ugly e.t.c”
Negative thinking
Thinking negatively about ourselves makes us find the worst in ourselves and reduce our expectations on ourselves. These unthoughtful images about ourselves prevent us from trying new things.
Limited self awareness
Having limited awareness about oneself would result in lack of understanding about one’s emotions and actions on how to accept ourselves as we are.
Unwillingness to accept unchangeable things
If you have a scar that know would remain with you till death, is it not better to accept it as part of you than to deny it?
Fear of self reflection
Fear of reflecting on ourselves makes us blind to realise who we really are and how we feel about ourselves.
This fear prevents us from growing and exploring our thoughts as humans.
Lack of support and acceptance of others
This is vital because the society makes us who we are and not being accepted by them makes us feel inferior, which makes us to keep trying hard to blend into the society standards.
Ways of accepting yourself
So “how can I accept yourself”, you ask? Well, the answer actually lies in you.
You simply have to acknowledge that you are a human with defects, just like every other human; while paying close attention to the following:
Thinking positively
Positive thinking gives you a good feeling about yourself. These thoughts make you think of endless good things that are considered impossible to do.
Stop regarding those who think you don’t fit into the society standards. Try to make necessary adjustments in where you are found wanting, even if it takes creating your own standard.
Work hard on self growth and development
Everyday comes with a new energy; so developing and working hard on our growth should be part of our life.
Remind yourself of who you are when faced with inferiority. Love yourself and care for whatever belongs to you.
