The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has distributed over 40,000 books and instructional materials to schools across the 18 local government areas in the state.
Chairman of Edo SUBEB, Dr Joan Oviawe announced on May 27 in Benin.
According to Oviawe, SUBEB had also inaugurated “Every Child is a Reading Champion “campaign as part of Children’s Day celebration.
According to her, SUBEB has since 2018 provided more than seven million books to students across the local government areas of state.
“But for today’s celebration, we provided more than 40, 000 books and other instructional materials to all our schools.
“This aims at promoting literacy among our schools children in the state. Universal Basic Education Commission has also been of great help in this regard.
“With Every Child is Reading Champion campaign, we are preparing our pupils to be able to read and they will be so good that they can write a book, that is the standard we are setting for our selves,” she said.
She noted that Gov. Godwin Obaseki-led administration remained committed to the well-being of every child academically and preparing them for leadership roles in the nearest future.
