While Setting goals, you need to ask yourself some questions: Are you setting goals for self growth or for competition? Are you setting goals because you want to be better than your colleague or you want to be better at things you do?
Some set goals for selfish reasons: Oh my friend is better than me I want to be better than him also, that’s not growth, that’s competition.
Any goal you set that doesn’t reflect growth in you is trash.
Your goal should be after your growth not after your friends growth, compete with who you were yesterday. Compete with the person you were two hours ago, strive to be better for yourself.
Do things that makes you proud, things other would see and say yes that person has improved a lot.
Before you settle a goal,
Develop an achiever mentality: When you have the mind of an achiever, you tend to think fast, you’ll be quick to think far and you’ll be driven to achieve great things and improve on your weaknesses.Develop a winner mentality: A winner is focused on the goal, he wants to win at all cost no matter the barriers, a winner is always focused on the prize, a winner never relents. When you feel like you’re very weak at certain things, create the right environment to develop yourself, yes it’ll take days and months but with consistency you’ll improve and you’ll get better. When you are better, certain doors will be opened to you, because your eyes have been opened to different world/opportunities.
- Be deliberate about your personal growth: My question is, are you satisfied with your present state? If No, then make a choice to improve on your self, stretch yourself, do things that will add value to yourself, whatever it is that will make you better mentally and physically do it for your personal growth, everyone is improving everyday, everyone is getting better and you sure don’t want to be left behind.
- Be consistent: Consistency they say is the rule of the game, definitely to see any result of any hard work you need to be consistent in it, if you want to be relevant in that field, you need to be consistent in building yourself and getting better, you can’t stop getting better, because everything you do adds to you. There is nothing you do to yourself that doesn’t add to you.
