Have You Made New Year Resolutions? Add These

It’s another time when people make lofty promises to become a better persons and forget all about them by February!

Whatever makes people think they need to make these promises as the year begins. I believe that we can alter our path at any time. We can choose to be better despite the time of year. But it’s just my thought though.

Whether at the start, mid-year, or the end of a year, you can make resolutions and stand by them if you just think a little out of the box. The first thing to do is to remove the word “resolution”. Let’s use the word “plan” for a change.

Plan, because it sounds like a chain of actions. And really for you to get anywhere, you need to take different actions. So with that said let’s get down to making a new year plan!

Right mind set

The first thing you need to do when creating a new year plan is to think right. Develop the right attitude and positive mindset towards your plan. Don’t ever think less of yourself. You are enough! You are unique! You are good and you can be the best version of yourself. Being that “best version” is what we are working on. I recommend self-love. It improves on yourself then you need to love yourself.

Set one goal at a time

Right now you might have a lot of things going on in your head. So many plans jumping all over your mind. Inasmuch as it’s a good thing that you’re thinking of positive ways to improve on yourself, you won’t achieve anything if you don’t start somewhere.

So, get a notepad and write down all those plans. Use the caption “New Year Plan”. Then arrange your plan according to preference or importance. Which one of them would you like to achieve first? Write that one first, followed by the next, and so on.

Understand the nature of what you’re trying to change

First of all, you need to understand the nature of the problem, or attribute you want to change. So many people fail because they failed to grasp what it is they are fighting for.

Before you can improve on something, you need to understand its dynamics. You need to access the causes. Understand its effects and how it works! For instance, you want to lose some pounds, and you don’t even know why you have all that weight in the first place, then just kiss your new year’s resolution goodbye.

To understand, you need to know. and to know, you need to read. Read about weight gain, weight loss. How it works. What to do. Then you have an idea of what you’re up against.

Make an action plan

After you have chosen what to change; read it up. Single it out in your notepad and write “Action Plan” below it. Then think carefully about the steps you can take to achieve your goal. Break the steps into more steps… For instance, You have “stop taking soft drinks” on your list of what to do to lose weight.

Understand that step, you write “cut down to one bottle a day in January”. Then you continue on the next line, “cut down to two bottles a week by March”, and so on.

Until you no longer see a bottle in your sentences. Then you start on the next step, “take the stairs every day”. Just like that until you have a list of steps and sub-steps to achieving your goal. Believe me when I say, now you have a workable plan.

Start

Write on the first goal, when you intend to start working on it, and start on the day. Set an alarm or reminder if need be. Start!

Stay focused and committed

Don’t lose focus. Keep at it! Don’t relent even if you forget within the day and take three bottles before noon. Just keep pushing. Remember to put on the right attitude. Nobody said you are bad, you are good. Only working on becoming better.

Let people know

Tell your relatives, friends, and family what your plans are. So they can help keep you in check. Also so they don’t tempt you with those things you are trying to cut down on. And it’s also nice to tell the people who matter to us, stuffs like that. It’s nice to hear those encouraging words from them.

Congratulate yourself

Give yourself a treat once in a while. Whenever you complete a sub-step, treat yourself to something nice. Everyone needs a little refreshing treat once in a while. Remember to avoid treating yourself to those things you’re trying to avoid.

Be happy!

Finally, always be happy… Smile when climbing the stair. Greet your neighbor with a smile when taking a walk. Maintain your positive energy. And whenever you feel sad, play music, dance! Just be happy!
