Be Cautious In January: Spend Wisely

The festive season is a period that comes with a lot of excitement for everyone as it ushers us into a new year.

It starts in December and continues until the early days of the next month, January in which people assume to be the longest month in the year.

You can see this from memes posted on social media as jokes indicating that January might have up to a hundred days. Although, we all know this is not possible as January has and will always have thirty one days just like December and the other six months.

One reason while this particular month is assumed long can be attributed to the expenses made in the previous month in which some people might term “Detty December”.

In the month of December, salaries are being paid earlier than usual as most organizations round up for the year giving their staff time to relax and flex after a year’s work and be ready for the next year.

However, this beautiful plan goes haywire when the money is spent extravagantly with no thought about the bills for next month. You get to find that even by the first week of the new year, most people have spent all their money and looking forward to the next pay day which would not come till about three weeks later, thus making a twenty-four hour day seem like a forty-eight hour day.

January is no doubt a full month but it won’t be a problem if one can checkmate how money is being spent during the festive season.

No one is saying you should not “chill” or go out to have fun with your friends and family, by all means please do, but while doing that remember to be sensible with your expenses.

There are still more holidays to enjoy in the next year, besides you don’t need to turn up at every party, visit every “lost but found” relative or honor every invitation because your pocket would have to cough out something at these events.

The new year comes with different promises and if wisdom is applied, January would seem very short to us as the next pay day would come so fast.
