Nigeria as a nation comprises different states, local government, wards down to the basic unit which is the Family.
For a Nation to be great or thrive well, all hands need to be on deck with everyone giving support from their end in any little way they can so the nation can move forward.
The family or the home is the basic unit of a nation and if anything goes wrong here, it affects the nation on the long run. Today, in our society, we are seeing a lot of broken homes which produce individuals that are pained or feel wronged who may tend to take out their anger on their immediate environment which indirectly affects the nation.
Every terrorist, rebel, armed robber, prostitute, cultists or even bullies you see today come from a particular family or home. Most of them have issues they are trying to escape from that made them turn into what they are today.
If one observes closely, you would notice some of them come from homes where they have to struggle for basically everything they need in other to survive, some have parents who are hostile and abusive or even victims of molestation.
In a bid to escape these sad happenings in their homes, they delve into vices that are terrible and with no one to set them on the right path, they become toxic individuals to the society; instead of the nation being built, it ends up being destroyed and even the good homes we have end up being affected.
The broken home is a social problem and a big threat as people turn a blind eye to it because it doesn’t make the headlines on newspapers and being placed on posters band billboards but just like termites, it eats away at the heart of the nation. With the hope of building a nation, we have to set things right in our families. It is not just a responsibility of the government but a collective individual responsibility.
Let us all be mindful of the kind of values we instill in our family, what example do you lay out for your kids or siblings? How often do you correct their wrong doings and praise them when they do the right things?
It is often said that children are leaders of tomorrow but what leaders would they become when they are exposed to the wrong values and become products of broken homes. Some might be affected physically, emotionally and psychologically in which if they don’t get the right help they need, get into activities that affects not just people around them but the society at large.
With the right help, they can become better individuals whose skills and intellectual capacity can be harnessed to create a better environment.
Build your family and invariably you are building the nation.
