It was a long peaceful night for the people of Anaku village until early the hours of Wednesday April 20th, 2022.
The people of Anaku in Ayamelum local government, Anambra state, were awoken with incessant gunshots, which started around 5am.
As the residents didn’t know what was happening, they exited their homes and ran for their lives until the gunshots subsided around 7am.
When a correspondent of Geeky Nigeria got to the scene, it was discovered that the Anaku police station had been under attack since morning by unknown gunmen.
“From the state of the police station, it seemed the police fought them off, thereby minimizing the damages.
“Three police vehicles were burnt down but the building was intact. And there were no lives lost except for few injured. They have been taken for immediate treatment.
“There’s peace and quiet now and the people have settled back to their normal routine, but there is uncertainty in the air as to whether the unknown gun men are gone for good or not,” our correspondent reported.
According to an eyewitness, the incident began around 5am, when people began to hear sporadic gun shots.
“It was so frequent that people began to panic. So the villagers got their children and started moving out to the next village, Umuria.
“We got a message around 7 am that the coast was clear that was when we returned to village,” the eyewitness said.
