The art of weaving beads through a fishing line is something beautiful. Not only do you create a beautiful work of art but you also make something useful while developing patience and endurance.
Beads can be used in making a wide variety of things used in the house and outdoors too. Beads can be used to make:
- Flower vases: in different shapes and sizes.
- Bags: for different occasions and activities, such as weddings, work, school bags, and so on.
- Jewelry: necklaces, bangles, and earrings for different occasions such as weddings, traditional marriage ceremonies, dates, work, and so on.
- Wall hangings and decorations.
- Pen holders.
- Fruit holders.
- Walking sticks.
- Footwears: such as slippers.
- Keyholders.
- Purses.
- Curtains.
- Phone holders.
- Toys, and every other thing you can imagine and creatively produce.
It’s a world of possibilities and I do not want to limit your mind, as there are different steps taken to achieve different designs and shapes. That is to say that the steps taken to create a beaded bag are different from the steps taken to create a flower vase. However, the steps all include passing beads through a fishing line.
Materials Needed
- Beads (any color, shape, and size you prefer).
- Fishing line.
- Gloves (to protect your hands and enhance your grip on the fishing line).
- Most Basic Bead Making Steps.
Building the Length
- Cut out a reasonable amount of fishing line.
- Pick out 4 beads.
- Fold the fishing line in two ( make sure both ends are equal).
- From one end of the fishing line, put in one of the beads.
- Now you have 3 beads left. Put two of the beads on both ends of the fishing line.
- Then cross with the last bead. That is, using the last bead, pass both ends of the fishing line through the bead.
- Now you have laid your foundation, all you need to do is build on it. By this I mean:
For the second step
- Pick out 3 beads.
- Put two of them on both ends of the fishing line.
- Then cross with the 3rd bead. As in no.6 above.
- This continues till you have gotten the desired length of what you intend to make. Then you will need to turn so you can expand (that is, build the width) your work.
Building the Width
First Turning
- Pick out 3 beads.
- Put two of them on one end of the fishing line.
- Then cross with the 3rd bead.
- Pick out 3 beads again.
- Look carefully so you can select the end of the fishing line that is facing upwards. On that end of the fishing line, put two of the beads.
- And cross with the 3rd one. You have now successfully turned and started expanding.
- Continue by picking out 2 beads.
- Put one of the beads on the end of the fishing line that is below.
- Then cross with the one above. Consistently follow this routine till you get to the end. Then you turn.
Second Turning
- At the end of the line, pick out 2 beads.
- Place the first bead on the end of the fishing line facing upwards.
- Then cross with the second bead.
- Pick out 3 beads.
- Put two on the end of the fishing line facing upwards.
- Then cross with the 3rd bead. You have successfully turned the second time. Now you continue with the steps in no.7 to 9 above.
- You can decide to create beautiful designs using different colors of beads. Remember, it’s a world of possibilities. If you can think of it, then you can create it!
