Irregular bedtime, use of gadgets at nights, uncomfortable sleep environment, watching TV at bedtime and others can alter the time you sleep which can result in Insomnia.
Eating Late
When you take a meal, your body takes time out to sort its nutrients and digest food properly, which is energy consuming.
Having too much food in your system before bed time can result in discomfort. Most people also experience heartburn and acid reflux that can keep you awake.
Caffeine & Alcohol
Coffee, Cola and other drinks rich in Caffeine contain sleep deprivation stimulants.
Alcohol may help you fall asleep, but it prevents deeper stages of sleep and causes awakening at midnight.
There is no need to get scared about Insomnia because there are precautionary measures you can take:
- Always avoid eating late in the evenings. 6 pm is an ideal time to have dinner.
- Check your medications to see if they affect your ability to fall asleep.
- Ensure you make your bedroom comfortable for sleep.
- Keep your bedtime and wake time consistent. Make sure you don’t skip it.
- Pet yourself to sleep by creating a relaxing bedtime ritual such as taking a warm bath, reading or listening to soft and slow music.
Try as much as possible to keep to a healthy and rewarding lifestyle and you’ll see your insomnia issues as a thing of the past.
