There has been a lot of hype surrounding this match ever since the draws were done in April.
Both teams had extended stretches without creating many exciting scoring opportunities, and while the crowds of both teams occasionally perked up, they sometimes succumbed to the game’s tempo.
Even a string of corner kicks that the Americans won, with Christian Pulisic waving his arms to excite the crowd, didn’t cause the English defence too much discomfort.

In the 77th minute, Weston McKennie leaves and is replaced by Brenden Aaronson for the United States. The Americans may have a more substantial offensive presence as a result of Aaronson’s ability to play a bit more forward than McKennie.
To make room for fellow defender Shaq Moore, Sergino Dest also declined a seat. McKennie and Dest both received yellow cards against Wales, so taking them out of the game before they might get another one ensures they’ll be available for the Iran game.
Gareth Southgate, the manager of England, also revamps his attack by substituting Marcus Rashford for Bukayo Saka.
The USA played more in the 2nd half but couldn’t convert any of their chances; they covered four kilometres than their opponents, with 4 attempts at goal.
A last-minute attempt from the centre of the box should have secured England’s victory but it was not to be as Harry Kane’s header from the centre of the box went left outside of the post.
Finally, the game ended in a goalless draw. The crowd booed when the referee blew the final whistle. Their displeasure was palpable. A draw for the USA was good enough but not for the English spectators who expected more from Harry Kane and co.
Group B now seems like the trickiest group to be in right now with Iran’s 2-0 victory over Wales. The Americans will play Iran next, and England will play Wales.
