April 22 – Imo-Rivers Explosion 2022
On Friday evening, the 22nd of April 2022, the people of Abaezi in Ohaji/Egbema witnessed a truly sad tale as an explosion that took lives and destroyed properties occurred at an illegal oil refinery located at the boundary between Imo state and Rivers state.
This refinery was reported to be located in the middle of a forest in the community. Because the community is on the outskirts of the state and is rich in oil, some individuals thought it wise to carry out illegal bunkering and operate illegal refineries in the area.
April 22 – Death of Alaafin of Oyo;
He is one of the traditional monarchs in the western region of Nigeria, who died on the 22nd of April 2022 as a result of an enlarged prostate at the ripe age of 83 at the Ife Babalola Teaching Hospital Ado-Ekiti.
The information gathered was that the octogenarian predicted his death. He was said to be managing the disease for a long while before it finally took him out. The traditional ruler’s inability to withstand the ailment despite his strict diet, exercises, and medications spiraled down to old age.

May 12 – Deborah Emmanuel Killed For Blasphemy
On Thursday, May 12, 2022, a viral video showed the brutal murder of Deborah Emmanuel, a 200 Level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education.
In the video, some students of the college on Thursday, violently stoned Deborah to death and later set her ablaze over an allegation of blasphemy against Muhammed, a prophet of Islam.
May 28 – Real Madrid Wins the UEFA Champions League Title for the 14th Time!
On Saturday, the 28th of May 2022, Real Madrid won the UEFA championship for the 14th time! It was a tough one with Real Madrid dancing to victory after the close save of 1-0, although kick off was delayed for 36 minutes due to security reasons.
Real Madrid have been consistent in their victory. This is the fifth trophy in the last eight years. They won the title in 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1966, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018..
May 28 – Port Harcourt Stampede Kills 31
Thirty-one confirmed deaths along with seven other injured attendees were victims of a stampede in portharcourt,. The charge had happened in a Pentecostal church on 21st of May, 2022 where free food was to be given to people.
The event tagged “shop for free”, usually held in the church would have marked the fourth of such food distribution events organized by the Church leaders from a local King’s Assembly Pentecostal church since its commencement in 2014.
This event was started to alleviate poverty and food deprivation in the said year of its commencement. Due to the outnumbering population of people, the venue for the event was therefore changed to being held at porthacourt polo club.
People had started gathering for the event, a day before the event, some arrived from the early hours of 6am on the event day, while some arrived soon after, for which the programme was slated for 9am.
Report has it that some people who were meant to have a sports session had arrived around 8 am just when the crowd had started growing impatient from excitement. The gate was opened and as the impatient attendees surged forward to gain entrance, the stampede happened.
The resultant effect of this action led to the death of 31 people, children involved and a pregnant woman, with at least seven injured people. The uproar of the incidence led to the suspension of the event with the injured victims being treated at the local military hospital.

June 5 – Owo Massacre
The Owo Massacre was another unforgettable experience in Nigeria when unknown armed men attacked the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.
The sad incident occurred on the 5th of June, 2022, when unarmed parishioners were attacked by terrorists. Though the souls of the departed cannot be recalled, we find consolation in the fact that Gov.Akeredolu announced the apprehension of the suspects.
June 26 – BET Awards 2022
The Nigerian entertainment industry is unarguably making a mark globally. It was quite an achievement for Nigeria as the Afrobeat took center stage at the BET Awards 2022. Wizkid and Tems took home the Best International Act Award for their song collaboration with the American Pop singer: Justine Bieber: Essence.
June 18 – Ekiti State Gubernatorial Election.
On June 18, 2022, the stage was set in Ekiti State for accredited voters across sixteen local government areas to make their collective will known at the polls.
The 2022 Ekiti State Gubernatorial Election was preceded by the start of party primaries on January 4, 2022, the conclusion of same on January 29, 2022, as well as the commencement and conclusion of campaigns on March 20 and June 16, 2022 respectively.
