The nightingale had flown away quickly.
Awero rushed back inside the classroom at peace within. “Finally! The bird has gone”, he said.
Ms. Omidiora continued teaching about lakes.
But today, we are going to look at the Lake called “Ado Awaye”. Everyone say, “Ado Awaye”.
It’s a suspended lake, we have only two of it’s kind in the world, said Ms.Omidiora, The Hanging Lake in Colorado USA and the Ado Awaye Suspended Lake in Oyo State, Nigeria. Now, class listen, what is a suspended lake?
A suspended lake is a body of stagnant water on the mountains. It takes about 350 steps leading to the top of the hill which might be equivalent to an hour.
The view from on top the hill is panoramic and such a breathtaking scenery.
Class! It’s so amazing to note that, this lake never dries even in dry seasons, and the water level remains the same in raining seasons.
Teacher!! Shouted Bimpe “This is interesting, is this a real place on earth or a make belief? Yes Bimpe, it is very much real.
People who climb to the top of the mountain to see the lake, usually write their name with pieces of stone on the rocks close to the lake as a form of achievement and also to create a lasting memory.
Class, did you know that till today, this suspended lake has attracted lots of tourist from all over the world. And majority are always wishing they could take the lake away or freeze the beautiful scenery away.
Oh Wow! I will love to visit Ado Awaye soon said Bimpe! That’s not a problem young one. It’s right in our state here about 20km West of Iseyin, Local Government Area of Oyo. I will arrange for a mini excursion for everyone in this class by midterm break is that okay class?
Everyone shouted “Yes Ms.Omidiora!”.
As Ms Omidiora stepped out of the class, everyone started muttering on what could have made the nightingale to fly away.
Some speculated that it may be annoyed with their last act. Others thought it needed a change of scenery.
But Awero, ever fascinated by the nightingale, yearned for it to come back.
Within intervals, he would pretentiously pass across the spot where the bird stayed and make a silent prayer for it to come back.
Day in day out, the bird didn’t return, and Awero was starting to lose hope on seeing the bird, until one day…
He slept and work up with the strangest dream ever!
