He slept and woke up with the strangest dream ever!
Awero!!Awero! Awero!! His mom called thrice! You will be late for school today. Won’t you wake up now, she said while sprinkling water on his face.
Ah Mom!. You frightened me ooh. I had a dream, about the nightingale!! I saw that she came to the usual rock where she always stayed close to the classroom and she was shot from afar.
She died mom! Awero started crying bitterly. Awero it is only a dream. Stand up my son go and dress up…. It’s school time.
Awero dashed off to school, it became the talk of the day in the classroom. I saw the nightingale outside on the rock but someone shoot her from afar off and she fell off. No! Said Bimpe! It must not happen! Sade said, not our lovely bird!
Within a few minutes! The nightingale came back to the top of the rock and started chirping brightly everyone rushed out to behold her beauty and presence.
Awero was super delighted, he somersaulted and dashed off to the next class to inform everyone about the bird.
Then out of the blues they heard a loud sound, like a Christmas banger! Boooooooooom! Boooooooooooom! Everyone all of a sudden became afraid. What was that said Tade? Bimpe was laying down flat under the table shivering, Awero, was behind the bookshelf.
Next, they heard the foot steps of boots and chants it came closer and closer. The sound became intense again, Booooooom! Boom!
It was the Gbaye soldiers who were coming for orientation at the market square in the town. It was a tradition for them to create awareness so that everyone will see, know and respect each of them.
Few minutes before, they got to the King’s palace to pay homage. They got to the school and a tired solider who was so exhausted heard the nightingale chirping and displaying her flight, contour, down feathers and shooted it angrily! What rubbish he said! And hissed away.
She stopped the singing abruptly and everyone wondered in fear what had happened…
They came out after a while. Only to see her flat on the floor.
Awero! Shouted widely …….No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This can’t be true! I saw this in my dream.
I should have kept her safe inside the classroom, but the gun sound was so frighten.
Oh No! Everyone kept on lamenting as they saw the bird on the fall.
The End!
