The Central Bank of Nigeria has commenced the evacuation of bank notes from its vault to commercial banks across the country.
Hence, it has directed the opening of Commercial banks across the country on Saturday and Sunday in order to begin the discharge of banknotes into circulation.
The Acting Director Corporate Department of the CBN Dr Isa Abdulmumin disclosed this in Abuja on Friday, March 24 2023. According to him, A substantial amount of money has been received by commercial banks for onward circulation to their customers.
“The CBN has directed all banks to load their Automated Teller Machines, as well as conduct physical operations in the banking halls through the weekends.
“Branches of commercial banks will operate on Saturdays and Sundays to attend to customers’ cash needs.
“The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, would personally lead teams to monitor the level of compliance by the banks in various locations across the country,” the statement read in part.
He also urged Nigerians to be patient as the current situation would ease soon with the injection of more banknotes into circulation.
