The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has issued a strong disclaimer against a website impersonating a government agency – www.fedstudyloan-gov.ng.
In the disclaimer released by NiRA on April 26, It was noted that the website is not affiliated with any legitimate government entity and was operating maliciously.
“The .ng Registry is currently investigating the domain name fedstudyloan-gov.ng and will take appropriate action to address this fraudulent activity.
“In the meantime, we urge the public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging with or providing any personal or financial information to this website.
“It is important to verify the authenticity of any online platform claiming to represent government agencies or offer official services.
“Genuine government websites typically have recognizable domain names ending with .gov.ng, such as domain .gov.ng. and not domain -gov.ng.
“The .ng Registry remains committed to protecting users and maintaining the integrity of the online ecosystem within the .ng domain.
“We encourage the public to stay informed and cautious to prevent falling victim to scams and fraud schemes,” the disclaimer read.
In a similar update, The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) advised students to verify the legitimacy of any website or service claiming to represent the organisation.
This was announced in a statement in Abuja on Friday issued by NELFUND’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Nasir Ayitogo.
“The fraudsters operating the website www.fedstudyloan-gov.ng have advertised an application for the highly anticipated student loan programme of the Federal Government.
“NELFUND wishes to clarify that it has no association with this website and strongly condemns any attempts to deceive students seeking financial aid.
“NELFUND takes the security and well-being of our students very seriously and is committed to providing accurate information and resources for financing their education,” he said.
