The largest tech and startup show globally, GITEX (Gulf Information Technology Exhibition) has been arranged to be hosted in Nigeria, for the first time in 2025.
GITEX stands as the world’s most established large-scale tech exhibition, and a vast gateway for collaboration amongst tech creators, inventors, and enthusiasts.
With over 40 years of technology exhibition and collaboration, its 45th edition is anticipated to be organized in Nigeria, Africa’s largest digital economy.
On Thursday, May 30th, the Federal Government through its Information Technology regulatory body, NITDA (National Information Technology Development Agency), signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to host the global technology exhibition in the coming year.
The agreement was signed in Morocco, by the Director General and CEO, of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, and Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of KAOUN International, the organisers of GITEX.
“Bringing GITEX to Nigeria will introduce the experience of the best tech conference to our country”. Abdullahi said while highlighting the significance of signing the MoU.
“The President’s directive is clear: we must build bridges with the rest of the world and leverage these connections to boost our economic growth. Through initiatives like GITEX Nigeria, we are creating platforms for our tech ecosystem to shine, demonstrating that Nigeria is not only open for business, but is also a hub of innovation and creativity,” he said, emphasizing the alignment of this initiative with the President’s Renewed Agenda to reform the economy to deliver sustained growth.
Trixie LohMirmand while speaking on the partnership, also expressed enthusiasm as she cited the impressive track record of Nigeria at GITEX pitch competitions.
She mentioned that Nigeria has positioned itself as the fastest-growing country for developers in Africa, with a huge potential for talent.
“Nigeria is a big market for tech start-ups.
“By bringing GITEX to Nigeria, we aim to explore the country’s potential in sectors like AI, digital health, and fintech. The initiative aims to not only showcase local advancements but also integrate the Nigerian tech scene with the wider GITEX network, providing Nigerian startups with a platform to connect with new markets” she said.
In previous years, many Nigerian startups have been featured at GITEX Global exhibitions. GITEX Africa took place in Marrakech, Morocco from the 29th to the 31st of May 2024.
This year, the global event is set to run from the 14th to 18th of October, across the mega venues of Dubai World Trade Centre and Dubai Harbour, showcasing tech giants and innovative startups in fields like AI, cyber-security, mobility, sustainable tech, and more.
GITEX, as the largest tech gathering, features over 2,000 of the world’s leading tech startups, with over 187,000 trade buyers from across the tech industry.
