Nestlé Nigeria has announced the opening of entries for its annual scholarship program, targeted at high-achieving senior secondary and tertiary students pursuing Science and Technology studies in communities surrounding its operations.
This initiative empowers and supports students, providing financial assistance to cover tuition, accommodation, uniforms, books, and other essential expenses.
Since its launch in 2020, Nestlé has consistently provided financial support to students in its host communities. This year, 90 verified indigenes will receive grants totaling N18 million. The application portal opens on November 5, 2024, and closes on December 8, 2024.
According to Victoria Uwadoka, Nestlé Nigeria’s Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, and Sustainability Lead,the company’s scholarships demonstrate its commitment to empowering youth through education, ultimately driving community growth and prosperity.
“These scholarships reflect our unwavering dedication to investing in the future of our youth. At a time when economic challenges place added strain on families nationwide, we’re proud to provide meaningful financial support that eases this burden. By investing in education, we’re not only empowering individual students but also fostering the growth and prosperity of our entire community.,” she said.
At the recent award ceremony for the 2023/2024 batch of recipients, 65 students from Abaji, Agbara, and Sagamu received scholarships. Beneficiary Adeyemi Gbenga Daniel, studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos, expressed gratitude, saying, “This scholarship empowers us to pursue our dreams and explore opportunities that might have otherwise been out of reach.”
Traditional leaders from recipient communities, including the Ona of Abaji, Alagbara of Agbara, and Akarigbo of Remo Land, praised Nestlé Nigeria for its consistent efforts and positive impact on their communities. They recognized the educational support and youth empowerment initiatives, promising ongoing support for Nestlé’s operations.
