WhatsApp has launched its major update called voice message transcripts to make connecting with friends and family even more personal.
According to WhatsApp, hearing the voice of a loved one, even from afar, holds a special significance, as there are moments when you’re on-the-go, in a noisy environment.
Voice message transcripts allow you to read voice messages as text, helping you stay on top of conversations regardless of your situation.
These transcripts are generated locally on your device, ensuring that no one else – not even WhatsApp – can access or read your personal messages.
Transcripts are rolling out globally over the coming weeks with a few select languages to start though WhatsApp plans to add more over the coming months.
To enable this feature, navigate to Settings > Chats > Voice message transcripts, where you can easily toggle transcriptions on or off and select your preferred transcript language.
To transcribe a voice message, simply long-press on the message and tap “Transcribe.”
It’s worth noting that voice message transcripts are written versions of voice messages, and the feature must be enabled on your device to use it. Once enabled, message recipients can see voice message transcripts, while senders cannot.
Additionally, voice message transcripts are generated locally on your device and remain protected by end-to-end encryption.
