The organizers of the MTN CHAMPS grassroots athletics championship have announced the top 40 standout athletes, dubbed Team MVP, who will compete in the grand finale.
The grand finale of the third season is scheduled to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo from May 6 to 9, 2025. These exceptional young athletes, selected from secondary schools across Nigeria, will showcase their talents in a thrilling four-day contest that promises to celebrate speed, skill, and sportsmanship.
According to Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Nigeria, “MTN Champs is a platform that continues to grow, transform, and inspire the future of athletes and athletics in Nigeria.”

MTN CHAMPS, an initiative launched by MTN Nigeria in partnership with Making of Champions, provides a nationwide platform for discovering, nurturing, and celebrating the next generation of Olympic hopefuls.
The championship has attracted thousands of young athletes through regional legs in cities like Benin and Lagos, unearthing future stars and giving them access to elite training, visibility, and community support.
The grand finale in Uyo will bring together 2,186 athletes from 136 secondary schools and 93 club teams, competing in over 5,800 entries across multiple events.
However, all eyes will be on the 40 elite athletes selected for Team MVP, who have been chosen based on their exceptional performances in previous MTN CHAMPS meets. These athletes will be officially unveiled in their new kits in Uyo on May 5, marking the beginning of an exciting journey to determine the best of the best in Nigerian grassroots athletics.
