The Ebonyi State government has taken a significant step towards enhancing transportation in the state with the launch of EBOCAB, a digitally enabled cab system.
This innovative service aims to provide a comfortable and regulated taxi experience for residents while promoting peace and tranquility in the state. The launch of EBOCAB was officiated by the state Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who explained that the initiative was born out of necessity.
Governor Nwifuru highlighted that the state had been plagued by incidents of touting, harassment, theft, and intimidation of commuters by some tricycle riders at the Ebonyi State International Market. These criminal activities necessitated the establishment of EBOCAB, which offers smart and cost-effective transport alternatives to the people.
The Governor emphasized that the cab service utilizes a telecommunication network to connect users to drivers within the metropolis in under five minutes, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience.
The EBOCAB fleet consists of 60 brand new pick-up vans and 30 units of Sports Utility Vehicles, designed to cater to the needs of air travelers using the state’s airport.
The General Manager of EBOCAB, Mr. Henry Okemiri, encouraged the public to download the mobile app, “EBOCAB,” to access the services. The initiative has received praise from notable figures, including former Minister of Power and Steel, Chief Godwin Ogbaga, who commended Governor Nwifuru for his vision and commitment to the welfare of the state’s citizens.
Chief Ogbaga noted that the EBOCAB service will not only enhance the economy of the state but also contribute to its security, given its regulated and trackable nature.
The State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Collins Igboke, also welcomed the new technology, expressing optimism that it will help make the state crime-free. With the launch of EBOCAB, the Ebonyi State government has demonstrated its dedication to providing innovative solutions to the transportation needs of its citizens.
