The National Identification and Registration Authority (NiRA) has declared the nation’s digital domain, .ng, unhackable and impenetrable.
NiRA stated this at the unveiling of its innovated secure DNS, called DNSSEC, during a Media Advocacy and Capacity Building Workshop held on Thursday, 16th of April 2026.
While giving his speech during the unveiling, NiRA‘s President, Mr Adesola Akinsanya noted that the DNSSEC is not just a technical upgrade, it is a trust framework that assures users of digital security on the .ng domain.

“…it assures users that when they access the .ng domain, they are connecting to authentic and secure digital destination,” Akinsanya said.
He explained that at a time where cybercrimes are evolving, the DNSSEC strengthens confidence in Nigeria’s digital space and protects the integrity of online interactions.
NiRA’s President noted that with the DNSSEC, Nigeria has joined other forward-moving countries in embracing the critical security standard.
He stated that the country is reinforcing its position in the global digital ecosystem as a nation that prioritises trust, resilience and security.
Akinsanya added that the achievement opens up the organisation to more innovative ideas to building a secure national domain that represents the country’s digital identity.
“For us at NiRA, this is a path for broader vision to build a secure, trusted and globally respected .ng domain that truly reflect Nigeria’s digital identity,” he stated.
He explained that the achievement was made based on years of commitment and collaboration for a strong national digital space.
“This achievement did not happen overnight, it is as a result of years of commitment, collaboration and shared vision, to strengthen the integrity of Nigeria’s internet infrastructure,” Akinsanya explained.
NiRA’s President appreciated stakeholders, technical partners, policymakers and others, who contributed to the achievement.
Akinsanya, however, restated NiRA’s commitment to continued efforts towards giving the nation a well-respected and globally secure digital space.
Speaking on the operations of the DNSSEC during the workshop, Executive Board of Directors, NiRA, Ahmad Mukoshy, who gave a lecture on the topic: “DNS fundamental and role of .ng in digital ecosystem,” said the internet operates with domain names with the DNS as the address book.
Mukoshy disclosed that anybody can access critical data through a DNS’ authoritative name servers, without hacking any website, adding that once the DNS is attacked, the whole website is down.
He, however, stated that NiRA’s .ng’s DNSSEC uses cryptography, which serves as lock to the domain’s DNS, with both private and public key, adding that all data and record are being encrypted and locked.
NiRA’S Executive Board of Directors noted that without the owner’s permission or exposure of his/her key/lock, no external force can access the DNS and by extension, the website.
Mukoshy, however, expressed confidence in the importance of using the .ng domain, noting that it is so solid that no other extension is as secure as the .ng domain.
