The Premier League season typically spans 38 weeks. This means that the battle for the final placement is gradually coming to an end.
There are four more games a week before the eventual emergence of the champion. So far, the midweek clashes have showcased tactical showdowns and survival battles.
Although EPL match week 34 is still in progress, it has displayed drama, strength, last-minute disappointments and victories. Amidst the drama, questions linger. Who climbed up the ladder? Who was beaten? Which team was relegated?

Midweek Fixtures of Matchweek 34

Brighton Vs Chelsea
Brighton and Hove Albion had a head-to-head clash with Chelsea on 21st April 2026. The venue was at American Express Stadium, Falmer, England. Seagulls secured a dominant 3-0 victory over their opponents.
Brighton welcomed their visitors by scoring just three minutes after the game started. This goal was scored by Brighton’s left back, Ferdi Kadioglu.
An article from wearebrighton.com described Kadioglu as the “best left back on the pitch”. At 56′, Jack Hinshelwood also hit the next. Danny Welbeck sealed the win at 90+1’.
Chelsea, on the other hand, only managed to register a shot after forty-three minutes (43’). This match was a complete smackdown on Chelsea.
Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro were notably absent. According to Sky Sports, the manager of the Blues, Liam Rosenior expressed his disappointment publicly. He had this to say:
“That was unacceptable in every aspect of the game. I keep coming out and defending the players, that was indefensible, that performance tonight. The manner of the goals we conceded, the duels that we lost. Something has to change drastically right here, right now”.
A report from the Chelsea official site did admit that “Chelsea suffered a fifth consecutive Premier League defeat”.
However, a day after the loss, the Blues released an official statement through the Chelsea FC official website, confirming that the club had “parted company with the head coach”.
A report from The Athletic confirmed that Rosenior is the fifth permanent manager to be dismissed since BlueCo assumed ownership. Now looking at it critically, can we say conclusively that the problems have been with these managers?
Bournemouth Vs Leeds United
For an hour, none of the teams scored. However, shortly after, a goal was recorded. Through Senesi’s assist, Kroupi had hit the net in the 60th minute. Eight minutes later, at 68’ J Hills scored an own goal. This was Leeds’ first equaliser.
At the 85th minute, the Brazilian winger Ryan put the Cherries ahead after he converted a cross from Tyler Adams into a goal.
A 90+1’ goal from Evanilson could have sealed Bournemouth’s victory. However, after VAR’s review, it was ruled out. What was close to a claimed victory for the Cherries was intercepted by Leeds at almost the stoppage time.
We had all almost counted Cherries to be the 6th on the ladder. Surprisingly, the biggest thriller and suspense came in the final seconds of the stoppage time. We didn’t see it coming, and I guess neither did Bournemouth.
At 90+7’ Sean Longstaff volleyed a leveller which pushed Leeds United to 40 points. A huge step towards Leeds’ survival in the Premier League.
According to BBC Match of the Day, Iraola had reported, “We are very frustrated, very angry.” “To concede in the 96th minute, I think it’s a clear offside. [Joel] Piroe affects the keeper; he’s at the side where the ball goes in.”
Iraola said it was unacceptable and would speak with the referee. We understand the pain of losing two points just a few seconds to the end of the game. One thing was very clear in this match, until the last whistle is blown, anything can happen!
Burnley vs Man City
Yesterday, at Turf Moor Stadium, Man City defeated Burnley 1-0. Currently, Man City sits at the top of the Premier League with 70 points, moving them ahead of Arsenal.
City maintained their historical game dominance throughout the match. Although Arsenal and City had the same points and goals, City beat Arsenal head-to-head.
Erling Haaland swooped the ball into the net 5 minutes after the match began. This marked his 48th goal in all competitions this season.
According to reporters from Al Jazeera, this win “marks the first time City has led the league since August 2025″.
BBC Sports reported that “It is the first time Pep Guardiola’s side has been top of the Premier League since August 2025.” This defeat also confirmed Burnley’s relegation.
