Konga, Zinox Partner To Launch Defence Discount Scheme (DDS)

Konga, a Nigerian e-commerce company and member of the Zinox Group, has partnered with the Defence Headquarters to launch the Defence Discount Scheme (DDS), an initiative aimed at improving access to essential goods and services for serving and retired personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces and their families.
The technology-enabled scheme is scheduled to go live on October 1, 2026. It will give eligible military personnel access to discounted products through Konga’s online platform, covering categories such as fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), smartphones, computers, home and kitchen appliances, automobiles, food and beverages, renewable energy products and other essential items.

The scheme was unveiled at an event in Abuja attended by senior military officials, including:
- Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede;
- Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas;
- Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; and
- Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.
Other senior officers from the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force were also present.
Representatives of Konga and Zinox Group also attended the event. They included:
- Onochie Eche-Chukwuma
- Vice President of Commercial Planning at Konga; Kingsley Asonye
- Head of Enterprise Solutions at Zinox Technologies; and
- Reginald Obiakor, General Manager of Business Development at Zinox Technologies, who represented Zinox Group Chairman, Leo Stan Ekeh.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, served as the Special Guest of Honour and delivered a keynote address at the event. He described the scheme as a contribution to the Federal Government’s broader welfare efforts and highlighted the role of technology and partnerships in delivering practical benefits to people who have served the country.
“This platform demonstrates how technology and strategic partnerships can be harnessed to deliver practical benefits to citizens who have dedicated themselves to the service and security of the nation,” Akume said.
He also commended Zinox Group for its contribution to Nigeria’s technology sector and its role in supporting the country’s digital economy over the years.
What the Scheme Offers
According to Konga, the Defence Discount Scheme extends its broader mission of making quality goods and services more accessible to Nigerians. The platform is designed to provide military personnel with access to a broad range of everyday products rather than focusing solely on technology and computing equipment.
Through the partnership, eligible personnel will be able to purchase products across categories including FMCG, mobile phones, food and beverages, automobiles, and renewable energy solutions. Konga said the wide range of products is intended to provide practical support for military personnel and their families while helping to reduce some financial pressures associated with everyday purchases.
In a goodwill message on behalf of Zinox Group Chairman Leo Stan Ekeh, Reginald Obiakor acknowledged the contribution of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces to national security. He said the group was pleased to participate in an initiative focused on supporting their welfare.
Obiakor also reaffirmed Zinox Group’s commitment to initiatives that combine technology and strategic partnerships to provide practical solutions for Nigerians, particularly those designed to improve access to essential services.
The Defence Discount Scheme has been integrated with the Defence Headquarters’ authentication and verification systems. This means eligible personnel will have their status verified before gaining access to the exclusive discounts. A live demonstration was also conducted at the launch to show how serving military personnel will access and use the platform through Konga.
The initiative builds on Zinox Group’s long-standing involvement in Nigeria’s technology sector. For almost three decades, the group has participated in efforts aimed at expanding access to technology and supporting Nigeria’s digital development.
One of its notable initiatives is Computerise Nigeria, a campaign focused on making affordable computers available to Nigerians. Through the programme, Zinox partnered with state governments, educational institutions and private organisations to provide subsidised computers to students, teachers, civil servants and small business owners.
Konga and Zinox Group Expansion Drive
Konga has also expanded its operations since being acquired by Zinox Group in 2018. The company has developed an omnichannel model that combines its online marketplace with physical retail operations, while offering services ranging from payments to last-mile delivery.
The Defence Discount Scheme builds on this infrastructure by connecting Konga’s e-commerce platform with the Defence Headquarters’ verification system. Through the partnership, Konga and Zinox Group are using their existing technology infrastructure to create a dedicated platform through which eligible military personnel can access discounted goods and services.
