More than 300 stylists from the worlds of style, banking, tech, and public office are expected at Fashion Innovation Africa FIA 2026, where they will examine the frameworks, capital, and alliances needed to build an African clothing sector that can compete worldwide.

The first-ever commercial summit of its kind is set for Thursday, October 22, 2026. The venue is at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. The theme is “From the Atelier to the Economy: The Architecture Behind African Fashion”.

The Lagos State Government is putting its weight behind FIA 2026, an event centred on the infrastructure and skills Africa needs to turn its creative talent into lasting businesses, employment and economic growth.

FIA 2026 Attendees

Those attending will include successful designers-turned-entrepreneurs and company heads, along with representatives of:

  • public bodies,
  • oversight agencies,
  • banks and lenders,
  • tech companies,
  • freight and delivery firms, and
  • others across the sector from raw material to retail.
FIA hopes that gathering these parties under one roof will strengthen ties between the artistic, business and institutional actors whose combined effort the industry needs if it is to grow.

The day will be packed with a keynote from government, informal conversations with leading entrepreneurs, a trio of panels and parallel masterclasses. Subjects for discussion include how to secure funding for business expansion, promote local manufacturing and garment production, strengthen resilient supply networks, maintain high standards of quality, adopt modern fashion technologies, and navigate trade policies and regulations.

Other key areas include improving access to raw materials, sourcing quality fabrics, developing skilled manpower, promoting sustainable and ethical fashion practices, protecting intellectual property and fashion designs, strengthening local fashion brands, and exploring opportunities to penetrate international markets.

Sessions at the event will also look at how local brands can become more competitive, win over investors and grow their digital marketing and online retail. Organisers say the talks will further aim to forge strategic partnerships and help Nigerian-made fashion gain wider recognition and acceptance on international markets.

Convener of Fashion Innovation Africa, Uche Ajene, said the event draws inspiration from Nigeria's film and music sectors, which have, over the years, built firmer business foundations and extended their international reach.

“There was a time when Nigerian music and Nollywood had immense talent but were still building the structures needed to support their growth and global reach. Today, both have made significant strides in taking Nigerian creativity to the world,” she said.

The speaker suggested that fashion in Africa might follow a similar path. Getting there, he argued, takes much more than flair and public attention. He added that stronger system is needed for it's all round performance.

He added that FIA exists to gather the major stakeholders and build that framework, so the continent's fashion can grow sustainably and compete worldwide: "FIA is bringing the key players together to help build that architecture and position African fashion for sustainable growth and global competitiveness."

FIA 2026: Other Sessions of the Conference

Beyond the formal schedule of sessions, Fashion Innovation Africa (FIA) 2026 will give companies and other industry players room to present their solutions, swap ideas, form strategic partnerships and look into commercial openings at every stage of the chain that runs from fabric to finished garment.

Final Thoughts

The first edition of the 2026 conference launches Fashion Innovation Africa (FIA), an initiative that aims to strengthen the continent's fashion industry by bringing together the individuals, companies and institutions driving its expansion.

By staging industry gatherings, forming strategic partnerships and creating room for the exchange of knowledge, FIA hopes to improve the infrastructure, funding and access to markets required for an African fashion sector that is better linked, commercially viable over the long term and competitive worldwide.
