Super Falcons reward includes flats and OON honours as well

The cash promised to the Super Falcons by President Bola Tinubu has now landed in the squad's accounts. The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that the squad's footballers, their coaching staff and the delegation's officials have all been paid, after Nigeria's landmark 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) victory.

Citing Vanguard: Sports, each player was paid the naira value of $100,000, while each official received the naira value of $50,000. With the Super Falcons reward paid, the Federal Government has kept the promise it made after the victory.

What the Super Falcons reward contains

The money forms only one piece of a larger set of gifts the president unveiled once the Super Falcons overcame their opponents and claimed a 10th WAFCON crown, a new record.

According to the report, every player and official had already been given two other rewards: a flat with three bedrooms in Abuja, and the state decoration of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

The NSC welcomed the delivery of the president's promise. It said that paying the rewards promptly showed appreciation for what the team has done for sport in Nigeria.

How Nigeria won the 10th WAFCON title

Nigeria clinched the trophy in July 2025, beating Morocco, the host nation, by three goals to two in the final. The Super Falcons trailed by two goals before fighting back to win.

The victory kept Nigeria at the top of women's football in Africa. It also stretched the side's lead as the most decorated team since the continent's women's tournament began.

Why the payment matters

Promises of rewards to national teams are often followed closely by supporters, and the NSC's announcement confirms that this one has been honoured in full across cash, housing and national recognition.

The commission's statement presents the timing of the payments as part of acknowledging the team's contribution. The story does not give further details on how the payments were processed or on any reaction from the players.
