Innovative thinking means digging deep inside of your mind to produce exceptional ways to solving problems. It also means taking different approach differently from others and achieving the best possible results on time.
You can apply innovative thinking in almost anything you want to achieve in life- it is the oxygen to excellent productivity and outputs.
Let me quickly tell you how you can use these ten simple ways to improve your innovative thinking;
Be Observant
This is key. So here’s what I do that helps me, when I’m walking, I don’t think of anything- I keep my mind open and my six senses alert. This is because I want to be able to look out for new things and see how I can apply it to whatever it I’m doing or trying solve at the moment.
You gain new perspective & awesome solutions when you observe even the tiniest detail around you – you never know what innovative idea you’ll get from that fruit seller by the road or the traffic warden on duty every Monday morning. Practice observation daily.
Develop good & successful habits
I have discovered that exercising helps the mind function very well, jogging round your house or around your compound is one way to exercise too. Your skin glows and your mind stays active to come up with innovative solutions- that’s a win/win.
Healthy eating is also important – try adding foods like nuts and milk to your daily intake – it develops the brain. Another successful habit is reading – check out most successful people you know, they’ll tell you they read good books and it is helping them stay grounded in their success, they form these good habits that enables them think outside of the box always and do things differently.
Don’t just admire these successful people, emulate their good habits too and carve out space for yourself to thrive as well.
Replace negative words with positive words
Stop saying “I can’t do it, it’s too difficult, I’m not that confident, I don’t know how to start.” Replace these words with their opposite. Learn to face your fears, great innovative ideas come from those who place high values in themselves and know that they are more than enough to devise solution to any problem. Rise up and say “I am powerful and I can do it.”
You got this, and to be honest – no one can do it better than you.
Focus
There’s a smart saying that says you create more from what you focus on, So if you focus on innovative thinking, you’ll come up with more innovative ideas. Therefore, feed your focus with productive thoughts.
Be persistent
Learn from your mistakes and follow up with that innovative plan until you see the results. Try not to let distraction weigh you down. A smart way to go about this is to upgrade your skill sets. Scratch for ideas by having conversations with family and friends – these set of people can help you point out where you shine the most in life. Persist until you win.
Keep a pen and a book close by
Whether it is under your pillow when you sleep, or in your bag when you go out – always carry a journal and a pen, so you can quickly write out fresh ideas as they come to you. Ideas can come at any time, so you have to be ready to pen them down and apply those ideas appropriately when the time arises. Writing them out keeps you accountable to carrying them out.
Dream without boundaries
There’s no limit to what you can accomplish. Believe in yourself. Open your mind to possibilities, discern the right ones, and have objectives towards making significant achievements.
Stop comparing yourself to others
Low self esteem begins to creep in when you compare yourself to others, you lose your joy and you are unable to reach the desired goals you have initially set. Ignore all distractions and think ahead. You are on no one’s journey but yours, so stay in your lane, think and succeed.
Look out for opportunities
Be curious always. Upgrade yourself by taking some courses online. There are some free courses you can sign up for that’ll help sharpen your analytical thinking skills. Volunteering also helps as well.
Know when to stop thinking and act
Gather up all your research and shun procrastination. The time to put your ideas to good use is now. Don’t wait for later. Start with the resources you have, & start immediately.
Let me know which of these points are familiar with you, and the ones you need help in improving. Remember to always be yourself, be patient with your goals as you trust the process of your innovative problem solving skills.
Until next article, I wish you all the best.
Love & light.
