Christmas is that time of the year when everybody thinks of showing off in their hometown, even at the detriment of their future.
As you plan to go home and disturb your village people with your “I have arrived package” there is a lot to have at the back of your mind in other to avoid stepping into 2021 with rejections.
Firstly, make sure your children’s schools fees are ready and don’t forget to keep your landlord’s money aside, their house is their shop and no one jokes with their business.
Traveling to your hometown is not a do or die affair, you can celebrate Christmas at your base if you don’t have money to travel to the village and if you will travel, don’t borrow car, money, dress and other luxurious things that will not take your village people’s attentions from you, don’t send wealthy signal to them when you barely see two square meal a day.
I understand that you are rich but why travel alone when you can actually pick passengers heading to same directions with you and collect your wages or render help to them. It’s always fun traveling with people because it’s always a perfect time to share ideas and tap current from their knowledge box.
A lot has happened this year and so many people had different approaches to different situations. This christmas, have fun by hanging out with friends but don’t go out to pay all the bills after enjoyment, split it amongst yourself and stop forming big when you know that your account is already red. Let those asking you for money know that things are no longer the same, stop pretending at your expense, stop suffering in silence and avert social functions that will tell terribly on your finances in terms of distance and the content of the programme.
If you can afford to do the pepper them aso- abi and have massive fun, do it but if not, avoid mandatory aso-abi wears that demands a lot from you remember, no one will kick you out the event arena if you did not wear aso-abi dress, it’s all about dressing smart and not uniformity.
You see those cloths you have been packing for your son or daughter that are still tender to wear when they come of age: those shinning and captivating dress that caught your attention, give it out, use it and sow seed on that poor child’s life, use it and cloth him/her, remember, before your child gets to the stage of wearing the dress, it might no longer be invoked due to the class. You might not want your kids to be spotted dressed with such cloth. Change is constant.
The rate of unwanted pregnancy in the rural area is alarming, create awareness in your area in any little way you can, gift out sanitary pads to young ladies, advice them, show them love and let them understand that you were once like them but never allow your family background to determine your life. Most of them perish for lack of knowledge.
You see that church project that is going on in your home town, don’t say that it doesn’t concern you, do it for God, and not for the Pastor, contribute no matter how little and if you don’t have money, clap for those that donate – don’t be an enemy of progress. When you rejoice with those that are blessed, your own blessings will follow up.
Render help in any way you can, extend love to the needy – you see those market women selling one commodity or the other in your village market, along your street, it’s not easy for them, don’t go and resurrect your pricing skills on their perishable goods, no doubt they will sell to you because they don’t want it to spoil in their hands but no gain made, they sell it with pains in their heart, let’s show some love to them, if you have money, buy and avoid pricing too much, if you don’t have, you know the price that is fair to a particular commodity, avoid unnecessary pricing on their goods.
